LONE WOLF wanted to produce the world’s first Augmented Reality role-playing game based on the novels
Background
Lone Wolf is a series of interactive gamebooks created by Joe Dever. These books are a unique blend of traditional novels and role-playing games. Each book allows the reader, known as the player, to assume the role of the protagonist, Lone Wolf, and make choices that determine the course of the story. The choices the player makes can lead to different outcomes, branching storylines, and ultimately result in various endings.
The Lone Wolf series is set in the fictional world of Magnamund, a land filled with diverse landscapes, creatures, and cultures. The protagonist, Lone Wolf, is the last surviving member of an ancient warrior-monk order known as the Kai Lords. He possesses special abilities and skills, and his mission is to protect Magnamund from various threats, including dark forces and evil creatures.
Problem
The Lone Wolf series gained a cult following due to its innovative and engaging format, which combines reading with interactive storytelling. It was first published in the 1980s and the owners felt it was high time it was updated for this millenium.~z`
Solution
We created a demo for the world’s first augmented reality role-playing game. Working with London-based game studio VisionizAR we created all the 3D content and animations for the Lone Wolf augmented reality game. Players interact with characters, based on a storyline, placed in their actual environment.
Impact
The demo was showcased in 2018 at Comic-con in Luca, Italy, to great aplomb. As expected there were a great many Lone Wolf book fans at the convention and when they heard about the possibility of playing the game in the real world they could not wait. Playing from the main character’s POV, fighting evil monsters and using skills like archery went down a treat. Everyone was ready for the full game and happy to subscribe for updates.
